Sarah Jefferson

2026 Student Employee of the year

In her role as the Social Work Department’s Social Media Specialist, Sarah has far exceeded the expectations of her position, demonstrating exceptional leadership, innovation, critical thinking, and a deep commitment to community, inclusion, and long-term institutional impact  While the core responsibilities of her role could have been limited to maintaining a basic posting schedule for our social media accounts, Sarah intentionally expanded the scope of her work to ensure that our social media communications were accurate, strategic, inclusive, and sustainable. She has proactively met with campus partners across the university to learn policies, resources, systems, and workflows, allowing her to represent the college with professionalism and integrity.  She anticipates our needs, follows through on commitments, and exhibit a high level of professionalism in all of her interactions. Her ability to build relationships across the college and the university has made her an informal leader whose influence extends beyond her formal role.

Taken together, Sarah’s contributions exemplify what the Overall Student Employee of the Year Award is meant to recognize. She has not only excelled in her individual responsibilities but has built an entire system for our department’s social media communications. In so doing, she has fundamentally strengthened how the college communicates, documents its work, and connects with the broader community while building durable relationships across campus that will continue to empower our work and foster collaboration and connection long after her tenure - an impact that is both meaningful and lasting.

Emily Prebil

College of Education

While Emily is early into her professional journey, she already has the traits of a great servant leader. She finds ways to get tasks done in a light-hearted and motivational way. She is often the one taking charge on projects and events, and her attention to detail is impressive. If something is put into Emily’s hands, I have never been worried about something falling through the cracks.  One of Emily’s strongest traits is her ability to think ahead and execute her work in a thoughtful way. I have never seen someone able to pivot and adapt to unexpected changes the way she does. There is never panic, only a desire to accomplish and to execute it well.
